Short version
Wegovy and Ozempic are the same medication, semaglutide, in a weekly pen. The level in your blood peaks one to three days after the shot and drifts down toward the next one. Eat lightest and lowest in fat on the peak days, protein first at every meal, and plan your strength sessions and bigger meals for the end of the week.
How the pen behaves in your body
Semaglutide is injected once a week and the level in your blood rises for about one to three days, then slowly falls until the next shot. Side effects follow that curve: queasiness, fullness and fatigue cluster in the days after the injection and ease toward the end of the week.
Doses step up roughly every four weeks until you reach your maintenance dose. Wegovy runs from a low starting dose through several steps to a full dose; Ozempic follows a similar ladder and stops lower. Each step brings a rougher week or two. Your clinician sets the pace, and slowing it down is common.
Your injection week
| Shot day | Eat normally. Have a protein rich meal before the injection so you are not starting the peak on an empty stomach. |
| Days 1 to 3 | Peak days. Half portions, protein first, nothing fried or creamy, fluids between meals. Cold or room temperature food sits better than hot plates. |
| Days 4 to 5 | Appetite returns a little. Add vegetables and fiber back. Your first strength session of the week. |
| Days 6 to 7 | Your most normal days. Use them for the bigger meal, a dinner out, your second strength session, and cooking ahead for the next peak days. |
If you can choose, inject on a day that puts the peak on quiet days, not on a weekend of social meals.
The daily rules, whatever day it is
Protein first. Roughly 25 to 30 grams per meal: eggs, Greek yogurt, fish, chicken, tofu, cottage cheese, a shake when you cannot face food.
Three small meals plus one or two protein snacks. Long gaps bring nausea on an empty stomach and fatigue.
64 to 80 oz of fluid, sipped between meals. Soup and broth count. Add fiber slowly once fluids are up.
Stop at first fullness. The medication tells you late; the plate will still be there in two hours.
Two strength sessions a week, twenty minutes with bands or bodyweight, on your good days.

A sample peak day
| Morning | Greek yogurt with a few berries. Tea or water. |
| Mid morning | Half a protein shake, cold. |
| Lunch | Small bowl of chicken and rice soup. |
| Afternoon | Cottage cheese or a banana. A glass of water now and again in an hour. |
| Early dinner | Palm sized piece of baked fish, a few spoonfuls of rice, steamed carrots. Stop at first fullness. |
| Evening | A walk. Water or herbal tea. |
Roughly 70 to 90 grams of protein. On days 5 to 7 the portions grow and vegetables and fiber come back.
Common questions
Is the eating plan different for Ozempic and Wegovy?
No. Both pens contain semaglutide and are injected once a week, so the peak days and the food rules are the same. The difference is the label: Wegovy is approved for weight management, Ozempic for type 2 diabetes, and Ozempic tops out at a lower dose.
Should I eat before the injection?
Yes, a normal protein rich meal on shot day works for most people. The lighter eating starts the next day, when the level rises.
Can I change my shot day to fit my week?
Many people move their shot so the peak days fall on quiet days, not on a weekend with dinners out. Ask your clinician how to shift the day safely; it usually means keeping at least two days between doses.
Why do I feel fine in week one and worse in week four?
Weekly injections build up. The low point between shots gets higher each week for the first month, and every dose step restarts that climb. Go back to the peak day pattern for a few days after each increase.
When to call your clinician
Vomiting for more than 24 hours, or not being able to keep fluids down
Severe or persistent abdominal pain, with or without vomiting, which can signal pancreatitis
Signs of dehydration: dizziness, very dark urine, not urinating
Side effects that do not ease at all after four weeks on the same dose. A slower step up is a normal thing to ask for.
